The Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation (LPEF) is proud to announce that Kaiser Permanente has awarded a $30,000 Community Health Grant to support Lift Lynwood: Mentorship and Scholarships, a new initiative designed to help Lynwood seniors stay on track for graduation and pursue postsecondary opportunities.
With this generous support, LPEF will provide targeted mentorship, monthly life-skills workshops, leadership development, and flexible scholarships to support students as they prepare for life after high school.
“We are grateful for Kaiser Permanente’s continued investment in our students,” said Elsa Chagolla, Executive Director of LPEF. “This grant allows us to support seniors who need additional mentorship while also offering scholarships that make college and career pathways more accessible to all graduates.”
Through the Lift Lynwood initiative, 20 seniors identified as needing additional support will receive one-on-one mentoring, monthly life-skills workshops focused on financial literacy, communication, time management, and leadership activities offered through the Lynwood Alumni Center. These supports are designed to help students strengthen attendance, motivation, and academic progress.
In addition to the mentorship component, the grant provides $20,000 in scholarships for graduating seniors across Lynwood Unified. These scholarships will be open to students pursuing a four-year university, community college, or trade school. Seniors will also receive guidance to complete essential steps in the college enrollment process, such as FAFSA/CADAA, course registration, and class selection.
Since 2015, LPEF has raised over $1.5 million to expand educational opportunities across Lynwood Unified. The Foundation’s work includes college scholarships, teacher and school grants, Career Technical Education/STEM initiatives, enrichment programs, and ongoing support for the LUSD Food Pantry.
The opening of the Lynwood Alumni Center in 2024 strengthened this commitment by providing year-round workshops, advising, and college and career programming for students and recent graduates.
Kaiser Permanente’s partnership reflects its commitment to supporting programs that strengthen long-term opportunity, health, and well-being for young people. Lift Lynwood builds on these efforts by offering individualized support for seniors and reducing financial barriers to continuing their education.
