As I begin my final term as president of the Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation (LPEF), I want to reflect on all we have accomplished and what we plan to accomplish in the 2021 – 2022 fiscal year.  As I have previously noted, 2020 was a year we will not soon forget, and 2021 has been equally challenging; yet, we persevered and accomplished a great deal.  As a Foundation, we established a more solid structure with a strong Board of Directors, adding new members who will help advance the LPEF goals to support the students and educators in the Lynwood Unified School District.

Thank you all for helping us accomplish so much in the 2020 – 2021 fiscal year. Below are some of the things the Foundation achieved:

  • Awarded $9,000 in direct grants to 22 Lynwood Unified teachers to enrich learning environments, and we plan to award $10,000 this next school year.
  • Distributed food vouchers to 780 of our most vulnerable Lynwood families and seniors.  The vouchers, used to purchase meals at local restaurants over the winter holiday, were provided through a CARES Food Security grant from the California Community Foundation.
  • Awarded approximately $30,000 in college scholarships to Lynwood Unified graduating seniors through support from the Kaiser Permanente, the ECMC Foundation, Lynwood Rotary Club, Southern California Edison, and individual supporters.
  • Helped Lynwood Unified receive a $100,000 grant from the California Community Foundation, to support the Lynwood Unified Summer Bridge Program for over 1,400 elementary and middle school students this summer.
  • Provided over 150 grocery gift cards to Lynwood families for COVID relief assistance.
  • Continued to support the expansion of the Lynwood Unified Food Pantry, which has helped over 20,000 children and adults in the Lynwood community since the pandemic in March of 2020.  We received support from the Lynwood Rotary Club and the Rotary Foundation to help with the cost of the expansion.

As we begin our work for 2021 – 2022, I hope you continue to support our efforts and stay connected to the Foundation.

Lori D. Williams, LPEF President 2020-22
